MY STORY

Hi, my name is Dorian Marquez and I am the guy behind Bay Area Motif. My journey started when I joined a rock band after having played trumpet for many years from middle school all the way through college and beyond. Playing in a band opened my world to a whole other side of the music world where you can really bring in a lot of creativity as well as business knowledge.

Having studied international business at San Jose State University with a concentration on marketing, I decided to apply my knowledge and pushed the group to reach the goal of recording original music in a professional manner. Not only was there a plethora of lessons to be learned by playing in a group of talented musicians, but also moving together took many discussions as well as navigating. It was clear that there was no specific way to forge your own path, but clearly, there are certain elements that make it more or less difficult to get your name out there, especially in San Jose, CA.

After having left my band due to life-changing, I still had a tremendous itch to get involved in the Bay Area music scene, so in 2019 I decided to start Bay Area Motif, to be a platform for discovery and discussion all around aspiring and active rock bands in the Bay. I wanted to prioritize those who have high aspirations and aim to record high-quality albums. Having stopped for a little while due to life getting in the way, I have started it all back up again, and this time, with much more added to the scope.
